Invite Your Sisters Into the Room

Invite Your Sisters Into the Room

This was a Linkedin post I wrote this year - I hope it resonates ...

Invite your sisters into the room.
The ones who don’t feel ready.
The ones who don’t feel enough.
The shy ones.
The timid ones.
The ones who think they are broken.
Invite them anyway.
Because I was that woman.
And it is in the room where the magic happens.

For us as Indigenous women, power does not ignite in isolation.
It ignites in connection.
Connection is not a luxury for us, it is our source.
Without it, we shrink.
With it, we remember.
Without it, we fragment.
With it, we are everything.
We are not broken pieces.
We are living extensions of those who came before us.
We are power. We are ability. We are forever.

I remember when Rachel Petero invited me into a room I didn’t yet believe I belonged in.
She saw me. She didn’t focus on the broken parts — though I know she knew they were there. She focused on my capacity. My strength. My potential.
And now ... now I have further understanding of myself.
Now I can stand in most places and feel who I am and why I am there.
Will I always always fit in? No, but I will stand out in my ability to bring myself.

So send the invite
For we all need to be invited
And the illumination that occurs from many different gems is the best way to brighten any room.
